100bn barrels of oil under gatwick
|
What's all this about then?
Any experts on here?
Who would technically own it?
Theoretically if you lived locally and some of it was under your garden or whatever could you in theory charge some cunt millions of pounds before they could drill it out?
Will America invade us now?
Discuss.

'only' upto 15% recoverable apparently. That's 15 billion barrels.
Total extraction from north sea to date has been 40 billion.
The Scottish independence thing becomes more attractive for me every day.

Not really, no, because it happens half a mile underground.

Can we tell the Saudis they are a bunch of snivelling sadist cunts yet? Or do we have to keep pretending to like them?

What actually is fracking? Seen this word all over the Internet for years and never bothered googling cos it looks really boring.
Someone explain in layman's terms plz.
Also I read earlier that we've actually been producing oil in the uk ourselves for "decades". I honestly didn't know this. Anyone on here involved?

Pump loads of water into the ground and forcing the trapped gas out under the resulting pressure min.
Fucks the water table right up sometimes.

Fracking is just forcing water underground to extract oil that is missed by traditional methods. Its either a new thorough way or recovering resources or is going to split the earth to its very core and send us spinning to a fiery abyss. Depending on who you listen to

The disposal of waste water from fracking is shown to increase frequency and strength of earthquakes. I think one town in America (maybe Oklahoma) have reported a huge increase in minor earthquakes (gaining in strength all the time) since fracking began.
FWIW I think that providing the earthquakes don't get out of hand it's a small price to pay to fuck the Scots and Arabs off.

Not just water but non biodegradable chemicals and sand too. Apparently trillions of gallons of water and hundreds of billions gallons of chemicals are used each year in the States for fracking.

I expect that the government would announce the oil is property of the UK rather than that of the people whose houses are above it, although I'm not sure of the legal ins and outs.
Fracking is basically inducing fractures or cracks in deep lying rocks using pressurised liquid or other which allows oil/gas whatever to flow through (from?) the rock and be collected. Something like that anyway.

you only own a certain amount of ground and air in a freehold.
Otherwise you could charge planes for using your airspace.
